Springhill

Springhill, Gainesville Florida

springhill

Springhill, located between Depot Park and Williston Road, is one of Gainesville’s oldest African American communities. Homes in the Springhill area appear on the 1890 United States Geological Survey map of the region, and the 1928 Sanborn map of Gainesville. The Springhill City Park, located south of SE 4th Street, provides walking and biking trails, a water feature, and a place for neighborhood gatherings and barbecues. In recent years, the Cotton Club Museum has served as a focus for the Springhill neighborhood’s community revitalization efforts, while attracting residents from across Gainesville and beyond, interested in Gainesville’s rich African American history.
